There’s been a lot of great work on making content accessible on social intranets. Responsive and mobile first are all great work. A supporting trend is BYOD – bring your own device – putting pressure on the IT Dept to support a range of terminals.
But – I think the flow of work is missing the most important link: The source of the information. As creatures of habit we’re used to typing on a full-size keyboard, using a DSLR Camera and pretty expensive video equipment. However – add virtual and distributed teams and the term ”in time” is not a matter of ”this work day” but in fact three workdays – in different parts of the world; a team in different time zones. So, as soon as input is available – we are already today equipped with high quality terminals able to produce high resolution pictures, video and supporting text and links.
I call this time MiMo – Mobile In – Mobile Out.
Today we know that
engagement is key – and we all LOVE stories and videos.
protocols are not – few write great protocols. A protocol is created in one environment at a certain time – distributed – and expected to be understood in a different time and space.
Stories are key in understanding – your MiMo message is capable of this!
Pictures and video speak over borders – language, time, cultures, fear, organization
Time to act is crucial – you can produce on the go
Feelings are on video – otherwise – no Hollywood
We now have the bandwidth! – our videos are no longer strangled!
And the quality of cameras and microphones!
And… most great leaders are best in meetings – now you can convey those feelings in additional channels.
So – What’s stopping you?
I believe simple Fear is stopping us:
Fear of legal issues
Fear of what other’s might think
Fear of entering new habits
Are YOU ready to Pioneer?
You may recall the old song ”Video killed the Radio Star” by the band The Buggles. Will we soon sing ”Video killed the Protocol Staff”?
