I was planning a p0st on digitalization and what it I believe is needed to do to make your organisation ready for the effects of the digitilization. But before that, I understood there’s a need of specification, what IS digitilization? Since I do a lot more than blogging, the two posts ARE building. But slowly. Then. I got Disrupted. By Pokemon GO.*
Disruption of course meaning the effect that changes all. Not necessarily KILLING it – but for a significant duration will influence it. Heavily. In my case, the two posts will be appreciated. But the disruption that happened to me brought another factor that disruption often brings: Simplicity.
The question became:
“If we were to use any of the game mechanics of Pokemon GO – what would we have to do?” And I’m not considering technical issues as well as licenses and software – but the company itself. Or rather: its culture.
I think such an organisation will handle some or all of the following issues:
A Game to Strategy to Operations understanding
An innovative mindset through the entire organisation, as this WILL indeed trigger behaviors!
Clear communication to our existing (and new!) customers – what are we DOING???
A sustainable plan with some early adoptors filled in with long term teams
Playfulness – so we really benefit from the game part of it – not making it a lame marketing action
We see each others in our organisation – as well as customer and other people on the outside
Challenge and Acknowledgement
Excellent listening skills – internally and externally. A chance also the quiet ones play a role in our organisation culture
Work with means of Agility, with short sprints followed by reflections in teams (we might even try retrospects with no hierarchies!)
Visual leadership – updating what happens in our neighborhood, with employees playing as well as customer’s success
Cognitive – let your brain into PLAY and PASSION!
I am pretty convinced your organisation will never be the same again.
